Project Helping Our Village Excel (Project HOVE)

At the cornerstone of our organization is Project Helping Our Village Excel (Project HOVE). This interactive, after-school program utilizes culturally-supportive curriculum to engage, empower, and instill community values.

Although an out-of school program focused on children, ASK employs a cross-generation approach. The curriculum mobilizes families, friends and neighbors to facilitate positive community growth. Those in the community unite to provide a plethora of resourceful tools to build the community, as a whole. Through Project HOVE youth are part of the solution, they have power to make decisions focusing on making their community more engaged and empowered. Youth and adults work together to accomplish the program goals.

The overarching goal of Project HOVE is to help youth and their community build skills that will enable independent and successful living. Using a technology based curriculum, Project HOVE participants build the skills essential for the modern workforce. In addition to soft-skill development and a scaffolding of supportive services, including counseling, mentorship and workforce development, youth find their voice as community leaders. The youth assist in training the elders in technology and community elders support youth in developing educational and life skills. Our guiding principles within Project HOVE are based in Interaction and Kinship.
